Dr. Yesenia Flores, Executive D​irector and Founder

Dr. Yesenia Flores earned a Doctorate in School and Community Psychology from Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. She is licensed in NY and NJ. Dr. Flores is also a certified School Counselor and School Psychologist. She has provided therapy in a variety of different settings including hospitals, schools, community clinics, long term rehabilitation centers, senior centers, and private group practices.

Dr. Flores is experienced with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues providing services for depression, parenting support, decreased self esteem, anxiety, trouble concentrating at work or school, and in the implementation of interventions addressing social skill deficits. Her specialty is trauma-focused therapy with children.

Dr. Jennifer Gioia, Clinical Director 

Dr. Jennifer Gioia earned a Masters degree in Educational Psychology from NYU as well as Masters and Doctoral degrees in School Psychology from St. John’s University. She is a licensed psychologist in NJ and a certified School Psychologist. Dr. Gioia is experienced in providing therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults diagnosed with anxiety, depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and other behavioral issues. Furthermore, Dr. Gioia conducts cognitive, academic, psychological, and gifted and talented assessments. Her background includes working as a School Psychologist in public schools in New Jersey, where she has gained knowledge in the area of special education and experience working on a Child Study Team. She has received intensive training in the area of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and is currently completing coursework towards obtaining a graduate-level certification in behavior analysis.

Dr. Shelley Wankmuller, Senior Clinician

Michelle “Dr. Shelley” Wankmuller earned her Ph.D. and Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University and her baccalaureate degree in Human Development from Cornell University. She is a licensed psychologist in the sta te of New Jersey who provides individual therapy (to children, adolescents, and adults), couples counseling, and parenting support. Dr. Shelley specializes in mood and anxiety disorders and has extensive experience treating bipolar disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, emotion regulation, and low self-worth. She provides insight-oriented, behaviorally-focused therapy to individuals with a history of trauma, loss, substance abuse, and self-injurious behavior. Dr. Shelley utilizes an eclectic therapeutic approach, incorporating her background in lifespan development and training in psycho-dynamic and interpersonal therapies into her clinical work, which also includes empirically-supported cognitive-behavioral techniques.


Before joining Bergen Psychological Services, Dr. Shelley taught undergraduate courses in Intro, Developmental, Abnormal, and Social Psychology at the New School University and Montclair State University. In addition, she has worked with male and female veterans at the Department of Veterans Affairs in New York and New Jersey, conducted psychotherapy and psychological assessment with children at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, trained in behavioral and neuro-psychological assessment, and participated in research at the Bipolar Disorders Clinic of New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center.
